A PICTURE BOOK BY BILL PEET

No Such Things

A rollicking bestiary of imaginary creatures, each introduced in a comic rhyming couplet, that Bill Peet dreamed up purely for the fun of making children laugh.

OPENING LINES

The Zebra Fly, the Kaboom Bird who has a very short life span, and a whole menagerie of make-believe beasts parade across the page in a book of comic rhymes about creatures that simply do not exist.

WHY HE WROTE IT: IN THE FAMILY'S WORDS

Bill Peet did this book just for fun. On the original family site it is noted that the creatures are "an assortment of make-believe creatures dreamed up more than 35 years ago," back in the 1940s. He once said of his young readers: "What I appreciate most in their letters is when they tell me my books are funny and make them laugh." A few imaginary creatures did not make the final cut.
