A PICTURE BOOK BY BILL PEET
Big Bad Bruce
A mean-spirited bear named Bruce terrorizes the forest by rolling boulders down onto unsuspecting animals, until a crafty little witch named Roxy shrinks him down to size and turns the tables on the bully.
OPENING LINES
"Then one afternoon Bruce made an awful mistake, a terrible blunder. He came across a huge boulder resting on a bluff and decided to give it a ride. With a mighty heave he sent the boulder tumbling down a steep slope 'Flumpity! Blumpity Whumpity Whump', smashing pine trees and aspens to splinters."
WHY HE WROTE IT: IN THE FAMILY'S WORDS
On the original family site, his son noted that his father loved bears and enjoyed drawing them. A couple of his other bears were Brer Bear in Song of the South and Baloo in the first version of Disney's Jungle Book. (Bill Peet, Jr.)
